Somewhere I Belong

Recently I decided to start listening to albums I haven't listened to in a couple years. One album really stood out to me when doing this, Meteora by Linkin Park. I actually used to hate Linkin Park when I was younger but the person involved in this story has a strong connection related to this band. Now, I have multiple friends in the military, one in particular (the one who got me hooked on Linkin Park) is the closest person I will have to an actual brother. My bro, Nicholas Smith, was born one day before me on the same year. We both have green/hazel eyes, blonde hair, and have too much in common to list on this blog without getting off topic. We met at our mutual friend, Aaron Dierdorffs, 16th birthday party at which Aaron and mines' band at the time, Kicking the Fall, played/jammed at for fun.
FREE CAKE!!!!
Later, Nick joined the Glendale High School drumline our Junior year and he was on second bass, I was on fourth. This made us work together for long periods of time as while that was my third year on bass so while his and mines' parts were in tandem, I also had to teach him how to play the drum in a way that a music judge at a competition would be proud of. During and after marching band we became great friends. We found out all of our common interests and it was like looking in a mirror. He would talk about his plans for the Army when he graduates, we would spend the night at each other's houses so we could continue to do weird and awesome crap 24/7, and since his birthday was one day before mine, we went to Disneyland for our birthday with my mother and our friend Adam (Adamantium).
No one can derp like Gaston!
Over the summer we kept hanging out until Nick said he was dropping out of school. I don't remember every detail, I like to think I tried to convince him to stay in school, but he was focused on his girlfriend over anything else (which is like him because he is the type of guy who will do anything for those he cares about with little question). Either way, if I did or did not say anything, he can only take my opinion for what it's worth, I'm not his dad, and he is his own man who can make his own decisions. We still hung out, but while I was focused on school, he was with his girl, and we eventually barely saw each other. When we did hang out, it was always fun and I enjoyed every minute of it. Later on, Nick left his desire to join the military and focused solely on his relationship.

Fast-forward about 4 months. I have graduated, Nick is still with his girlfriend. Everything started to fall apart for my friend and I always tried as hard as I can to support him. He eventually had a bad break up with his girlfriend and shortly after his mom kicked him out of where he lived. He had no where to go, and I was more than happy to take him in under my grandmas roof. He moved in and we started to jam in my garage, go out for strolls, do our own thing in our rooms like actual brothers and we kept referencing Step Brothers. In my moms car that I use to get around, our other friend we call Little Dude, burned Linkin Parks first 2 albums, Hybrid Theory and Meteora. We started jamming to these albums day and night, we listened to them religiously and one song stuck out to me, Nicks favorite track, #3 Somewhere I Belong.

Later Nick left my place and moved to his Uncles in Alabama, got his GED, and re-joined the military. I still listened to Linkin Park after he left for quite awhile and going back to this brought back all of these awesome memories. My bro, went through a lot and I am very happy to have him in my life and I couldn't be happier that he's serving our country but more importantly, I couldn't be happier that he found Somewhere Where He Feels He Belongs.

Entry #1: Flogging Blogs

Before I begin dissecting blogs that I've read and my opinion on opinions of opinions (some of them being actual facts), I want to state that before college, the closest I came to a blog was from Tumblr's 'Did You Know?' Facebook page because I am a nerd who loves factoids. Now as I determine more of who I am, what I want to be, and who I set out to be; my opinions of blogs is starting to take a polar shift. I have started following blogs for groups that share the same interest as myself outside of my required studies.
The very first blog I took my own liberty to follow is for the only video game series I play on any available free time I have, which is the Legend of Zelda series. One blog in particular, is Zeldainformer. where both volunteer writers, commenters, and paid writers all take time to share common interests and dissect all info from all Zelda games and everything Zelda related. They look at all aspects of why the writer personally likes a subject and how it affects them. They also look over fiscal and other Nintendo related items because Nintendo's success is linked to the Zelda series success. Over all it is mostly a personal blog with some professional aspects sprinkled in to certain subjects.
The next two blogs were blogs I reviewed from Blogger Busters "The Top 50 Blogger Blogs" (http://www.bloggerbuster.com/2008/05/top-50-blogger-powered-blogs.html) and the first was an art blog. This one personally caught my eye because before I took on music, I focused on physical arts, mainly sketching. This next blog was the number one blog at the top, Post Secret.
Post Secret had a lot of Facebook likes from a lot of my friends and I was disappointed I never heard of it before. I personally enjoyed how all art posts are mailed in anonymously on post cards, and how each post had a different picture, a different story, and a can be intermitted in many ways depending on the person. Some posts are pointless, some are satire, some are just made to make you ponder the different quotes that are sent in. It can inspire, and relate, to all who follow the blog and I see it's very connected with its followers, which are mostly young adults.
As you can see, I'm a really artsy person.
The next blog caught my attention solely by it's name, Hullabaloo (digbysblog.blogspot.com, #7 on the top 50 list). Which who can blame me, say it out loud and you can be in my stinky shoes for a couple seconds. Yet with such a fun name, this blog deceived me. If I had read on the Blogger Bust small text under the links it would not have, but the name just caught my attention so well. It's contents are not as fun to read as it's name because it is mostly a political blog. Skimming through it's contents it continued to, quite simply, bore me. I understand the social issues that they are stating and debating about, but it's all the same content from any other political blog/website or what a few people would post on my Facebook. The most enticing post was a Super Bowl recipe, everything else seemed to me like a self-righteous political news source with the same content of Fox News but with different opinions than Fox. It was simply content I wouldn't read unless required for a school assignment.
"Why can't we be friends?"
For those that took the time to read my blog and read the links, what are your opinions? Did any of the ones that entertained me bore you (or Vice-Versa)? Let me know!

My, Myself, and the Gomes.

Hello everyone! As you may be able to tell, my name is Tyler.
I am currently a student at Glendale Community College studying for my Associates in Business. I am a very weird guy, to begin with. I have many interests and hobbies, I have a moderately sized group of friends, and with all of our mutual interests and hobbies we end up in a lot of shenanigans. My story begins, and stays, in Glendale. I am a single child, of a single mother, and we live with my grandma. My father figure was actually my uncle who helped raise me and taught me how to be myself but still be a man. My family is mainly from New England, Massachusetts to be exact, and so our use of "R's" is used very loosely. To my family I was born with, I am Tyler Scott Gormley. To the family I chose, I am the Gomes.
We're pretty lame

My friends have been acquired over the years, some I've known since First Grade, others I've known for less than 2 years, but we all have one thing in common; we're messed up in the head. We normally go by solely our last names for most of the group so for example, my brother from another mother, Aaron Dierdorff, is known as Dierdorff. BUT WAIT THERES MORE. See, as I stated before we are a little.... different. We didn't leave it at Dierdorff, we eventually went to Dee-Dof, to just plain "D", to now the infamous "Big D". The same thing happened with me, and since they went by my last name, Gormley, they went to "Gomlay", to now "The Gomes".
He doesn't bite

Now these interests that connect us are pretty normal, we're just weird individuals. My personal interests are of music, animals, movies, specific video games, and hockey. The biggest thing that connects my friends is the fact that 6 of us have been in a band. We started out with just my friends from first grade, Matthew Burton (rhythm guitar) , Aaron Dierdorff (lead guitar), and myself (drums), in a band named Kicking the Fall. We at first didn't know we had this common interest, as well as our love for the Legend of Zelda series, and started to jam until we made the band. We went on to add Jordan Engle on bass, Danny Guardado on vocals, and Brent Billie for back up scream vocals. Eventually the band broke up and Aaron and I created with Jordan and Brent, A Thought Forgotten, that just recently broke up because adulthood sucks. We even went as far as playing at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe.

I have always enjoyed playing the Legend of Zelda series, my favorites being A Link to the Past and Twilight Princess, and their music actually got me into playing musical instruments. I also love animals greatly, ever since I was little. I currently own 3 dogs (Milo, Jenny, and Zelda), a Cockatiel named Jack, and a Bearded Dragon named Avedis. I used to want to be a Veterinarian until I found out I sucked at math. Lastly, every man has his favorite sport, mine is hockey and my favorite team is the Boston Bruins.
Now as I said in the beginning, I am attending Glendale Community College. I am focusing on my Associates of Business, mainly on Marketing, because I took Marketing and DECA as an elective and club senior year and fell in love with it. It took a lot of creativity to make advertisements and a lot of out-of-the-box thinking to pertain to certain demographics to help distribute products and would love to make that a career. I eventually plan on transferring to Arizona State University (ASU), but until then, I am still stuck in Glendale, Arizona. Lastly, I will show a summarization of how my life normally goes. Enjoy!
